Indian Council of Social Welfare
Indian Council of Social Welfare [ICSW] came into existence in 1947 with central office at Mumbai. This organization was responsible in the formation of Ministry of Welfare at the centre. It works in close co-ordination with central and state governments, other voluntary organizations and international bodies in social service fields. Its functions are carried out through its zonal councils, state councils, district branches and central offices. The chief objective of the council is to co-ordinate the efforts of NGO’s working in social service field, conduct seminars and training sessions on subjects related to social service field and work as a scrutiny agency for child adoptions. ICSW is registered under Public Trust Act 1950 (BOMXXXIX of 1950) number public trust F 321 (BOM) and under Societies Registration Act 1860 (Act XXI of 1860) number 1799 of 1947-1948. Donation to ICSW is exempted from Income Tax under Sec 80 G. The council has 22 state branches in various states and union territories.
The 60 years of the Indian Council of Social Welfare (earlier Indian Conference of Social Work) from 1947 could be very broadly put in different phases. The first decade, which began with the dawn of India's Independence it¬self, at its stage of infancy, is the foundation period, followed by the 10 years of transformation and consolidation from Conference to Council at the National Conference held at Madras in 1967.
